Battle Of The Borders Is Back!
This September event offers a true test of endurance and a spectacular setting for those looking to take on the hills of Shropshire...
Trail runners can look forward to one of the most dramatic and rewarding races of the year as the Battle of the Borders returns to Carding Mill Valley, Church Stretton on 6 September. Set in the heart of the Shropshire Hills, this popular event offers both half marathon and full marathon distances across rugged and scenic terrain.
The route winds through the Long Mynd and surrounding National Trust landscapes, offering breathtaking views and a true off-road challenge. Runners can expect a single-lap course that avoids repetitive loops and out-and-backs, making for a more authentic trail experience. Starting and finishing in Carding Mill Valley, near the National Trust tea rooms, the course promises a tough but unforgettable journey through some of England’s most spectacular countryside.
The Battle of the Borders continues to build its reputation as one of the toughest and most scenic trail races in the region. The marathon will begin at 9am with a strict cut-off of seven hours, runners attempting the full distance must complete the first half by 12.30pm to continue onto the second section of the course.
Carding Mill Valley is just a short distance from the picturesque town of Church Stretton, which has excellent transport links including a nearby train station less than a mile from the start line. With well-stocked aid stations, friendly marshals and a memorable medal for all finishers, this event is a must for trail enthusiasts.
