Wings For Life Heads South
Wings for Life is back with venues in London, Southsea and Bath...
The Wings for Life World Run returns for its 11th edition on Sunday 4 May 2025, bringing together runners from all corners of the globe for a truly unique challenge. Unlike traditional races, this event has no set finish line – participants run as far as possible before being caught by the Virtual Catcher Car. The beauty of the race lies in its inclusivity, with everyone considered a finisher, no matter the distance they cover.
The event allows runners and wheelchair participants to race side by side, whether in the same city or connected virtually through the Wings for Life World Run App. Friends, families and colleagues can form teams and take on the challenge together, even if they’re in different locations.
Runners in the South are invited to London, Southsea and Bath to take on the race. The event will start at 12.00 noon in each location. The Virtual Catcher Car begins its pursuit 30 minutes later, starting at 14 km per hour and gradually increasing speed until the last participant has been caught.
The London location is the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, home of the London 2012 Olympics. A 2.5K loop will take runners past several inspirational sporting venues and the iconic Olympic rings.
Southsea Common is the Hampshire venue where a 4.5K course will take runners on the new raised section above Speakers’ Corner, along the sea front, passing in front of Southsea Castle, towards Clarence Pier, through the tunnel, back down Duisburg Way and through Southsea Common back to the start.
NOWHERE is the Bath venue! You will meet at the NOWHERE Tavern in Oldfield Park for a 5K loop including a scenic stretch beside the River Avon.
With no pressure to hit a certain time or distance, this event is open to all fitness levels, inviting everyone to take part in a global movement for a cause. What makes this race even more special is its commitment to spinal cord injury research. Every penny of the entry fees and donations goes directly to fund groundbreaking research projects, ensuring that every step taken helps move science forward.
Organisers say: "Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply soaking up the atmosphere, one thing is certain – this is a race where everyone wins."
