Lets Get Ready To Wobble
Brandon Fern Hoppers clear the way for a great trail race...
And the prize for the best race name for the weekend goes to: The Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog!
After the recent rain and warm weather, there was a need for some essential course clearance in the beautiful Thetford Forest – stamping ground of the Brandon Fern Hoppers, who are not a new species of interest to twitchers but the local running club with an intimate knowledge of the forest around Brandon which they love to share with new members.
The Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog is a delightful trail run of approximately five miles, suitable for all abilities, through the scenic tracks and paths of High Lodge, Thetford Forest, in the heart of Breckland in Norfolk. The natural forest trails used for the event have numerous trip hazards and runners are advised to take care and be aware of their safety in this respect.
Brandon Fern Hoppers is a friendly, inclusive social running club with members of varying abilities and ages. As they enjoy the luxury of Thetford Forest right on their doorstep, most of the club runs are off-road and on peaceful forest trails.
The 25th Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog will start at 7:00pm on Friday 19 July 2024. The race is based at the High Lodge Forest Centre and starts and finishes on Main Green, in front of the High Lodge Cafe (pictured below).
There is so much to see and do here, with adventure golf, archery, walking trails, cycling trails, play areas, and picnic areas so many competitors arrive early and bring their family. The lower age limit for the race is 16 and no dogs or pushchairs are allowed on the course.
Total Race Timing is in charge of the results and last year there were 275 finishers in 1:33:22 and wins for Kieran Brady (Cambridge & Coleridge AC, 34:07) and Jessie Gooderham (Saint Edmund Pacers, 37:18) who was sixth overall.
After an absence last year, the Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog is fully subscribed for this year but spectators are welcome and you can always make a note to enter early for next year!
