Celebrating its 40th running in 2026, the race follows the entire length of Scotland's famous West Highland Way, attracting experienced ultra runners from across the globe.
Starting in Milngavie in the early hours of the morning, competitors cover 95 miles through some of Scotland's most spectacular landscapes before reaching the finish in Fort William. The route passes alongside Loch Lomond, crosses the remote expanse of Rannoch Moor, climbs the Devil's Staircase and traverses the dramatic Highland scenery that has made the West Highland Way internationally renowned.
With a field limited to 300 runners and strict qualification standards, the race maintains a unique atmosphere despite its global reputation. Combining demanding terrain, significant elevation gain and a 35 hour time limit, the West Highland Way Race is widely regarded as one of the premier ultra running challenges in the UK.
