Tough Fell Race Makes Return
This fell race may be tough but the post race rewards more than make up for it...
The Warslow Fell Race will make a triumphant return this summer after a year’s break, promising an unforgettable test of endurance across Derbyshire's rugged White Peak. Organised by Staffordshire Moorlands Athletics Club, the event will take place on 5 July, starting from Warslow Village Hall in Buxton.
Covering a punishing 10K route with 675 metres of ascent, the race takes runners over steep, technical ascents and descents that showcase the area's dramatic landscapes. This is not an event for the faint-hearted: organisers stress that the race is only suitable for experienced fell runners.
For the first time, junior races for older age categories will also be included in the day’s programme, with further details to be confirmed soon on the Staffordshire Moorlands AC and Fell Runners Association websites.
While the village’s traditional beer festival will no longer run alongside the race, runners and spectators needn’t worry about missing out on post-race celebrations. The Greyhound Inn, located just up the road from race HQ, will be hosting its own Beer, Cider & Sausage Festival on the same day, ensuring that the festive spirit continues.
The Greyhound Inn, recently featured on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed, has also generously donated prizes for the event, including a burger and drink voucher for all category winners as well as for the overall second and third-place male and female finishers. After the race, participants and supporters can refuel with teas, coffees and cakes back at Race HQ.
