Lapping It Up!
Scenic ultra event to return to East Ayrshire this summer...
Runners looking to push their limits in a scenic and supportive setting should mark 3 August on their calendars, as the K6 and K12 Ultra Marathons return to Kilmarnock's Dean Castle Country Park for a second year. Set in the heart of East Ayrshire, these timed endurance events challenge participants to complete as many laps as possible around a 4K loop within either six or 12 hours.
The route winds through the picturesque grounds of the country park and features a mix of terrain, with the majority on well-maintained paths and a few hill sections to keep things interesting. The clockwise loop allows participants to build rhythm and familiarity, while still offering a varied enough course to keep runners engaged throughout the day.
The K6 Ultra begins at 11am and runs until 5pm, while the K12 Ultra kicks off earlier at 7am and continues until 7pm. Whether competing as an individual or part of a team relay, the aim is the same: to cover the greatest distance within the allotted time.
The event caters to both solo endurance runners and relay teams of up to four people. For the relays, teams will take turns completing laps, with the winning team being the one that accumulates the highest distance over six or 12 hours. Individual ultra runners will also compete for the longest distance covered in their respective time categories.
Dean Castle Country Park will once again offer a welcoming environment for participants, with access to toilets, showers and a café on site. An athletes’ village will be available for competitors to set up personal support tents, and boiling water will be provided to help with hydration and hot food needs during the event.
With its blend of challenging endurance and natural beauty, the K6 and K12 Ultra Marathons are fast becoming a highlight of Scotland’s ultra-running calendar.
