Snowy Runners
Take on a super cool night time running challenge this March...
Are you looking for a winter adventure? Why not try some snow running at Glenshee this March? The event offers the experience of running in the snow, at night in the Scottish mountains - truly a unique event in the UK hill running calendar.
This year's event will take place on 1 March around Glenshee Ski Station on compact piste snow with runners setting off at sunset and into the winter night. Organisers told us: "It has been designed as a challenging but fun event and those taking part can run it as an opportunity to simply experience the challenge of the snowy hills at night or as a fierce mountain competitor chasing the trophy!"
There are two courses to choose from - short and long. The Short course is 6.5K with a 500m climb, runners will climb the first Munro of the course, Meall Odhar getting a glance to Glas Maol. After loop 1 they will finish with the mini loop, probably in the dark.
The Long course is 11.5K and a 950m climb. Runners will go through three Munros, Meall Odhar, Carn Aosda and Cairnwell and will have a beautiful view of the Cairngorms in the distance. Those taking on this challenge will definitely be running in the dark at some point with many others!
The event has access to Victoria Hall in the centre of Braemar with a kitchen and bathroom and with space for pitching tents outside.
Speaking after last year's edition, organisers said: "The 2024 event gave us all another night with great conditions and the many smiling faces indicate that everyone enjoyed themselves. We saw returning competitors from previous years but lots of new faces too, coming from far and wide. We’re really pleased to see the event growing and reaching more people each year."
