Baker Bags Another Win
Records fell at the generously rewarded Totnes 10K...
Previous winner James Baker (Chichester Runners) and 2024 defending champion Ceri Rees (unattached) went toe-to-toe for victory in the 25th Totnes 10K trail race in Devon on Sunday, 3 August 2025.
The prolific M45 Chichester Runner prevailed by eight seconds in 39:22, adding another win to his more than 1,200 first places in races and parkruns. Baker set an M45 age group course record for the revised route adopted in 2022 due to erosion in the Dart Valley. Wild Running Events Director, Ceri Rees (M50) finished strongly in 39:30 for second overall, followed by new M40 record holder Ronnie Haynes (Erme Valley Harriers, 39:48).
The women's race was also hotly contested. Rebecca Ezra-Ham (Tamar Trotters, 42:59) set an outright female course record for a £100 cash bonus. Second place went to the talented under-18 junior record breaker Tara Ferguson (Windsor, Slough & Eton AC, 44:20) with Naomi Flanagan (Torbay Tri Club, 45:33) in third place.
Despite a modest entry fee of £16, this race has an extensive prize list and all finishers receive a bespoke medal. As well as the records mentioned, West Country super-agers added £25 bonus awards for course records by M60 Graham Bale (Plymstock Road Runners, 44:26); M65 Hal Pawson (unattached, 48:55); W45 Amy Jones (South West Road Runners, 47:28); W65 Jenny Reay (Exmouth Harriers, 51:03) and W70 Lesley Nesbitt (Yeovil Town Road Runners Club, 72:36).
There is a strict entry limit of 625, and 550 finished in 1:47:31. The hour was beaten by 162 finishers. The course is a classic trail, with an innocuous start from Totnes Leisure Centre in Borough Park. The opening kilometres follow the beautiful River Dart Valley, but the challenge comes with the testing climbs through the historic Dartington Estate and North Wood.
Teignbridge Trotters include a popular Mile Fun Run, and 156 completed the course around the perimeter of Borough Park, rewarded by medals and chocolate! Funds were raised for the Totnes Caring charity, and nearly £30,000 has been donated to this worthy cause.
