Still Time To Sign Up To This Regal 10K
Fancy starting a race running through the gates of a beautiful castle?
There's still time to get another 10K under your belt before the end of the month but with entries for the South Cave 10K closing very soon for this particular East Yorkshire classic you better get your skates on!
The popular event is organised by Kingston Upon Hull Athletics Club and starts and finishes in the picturesque town of South Cave.
The 10K course takes in some beautiful scenery through quiet country roads and provides just enough of a challenge to keep even the seasoned striders on their toes. Starting at the beautiful gates of Cave Castle, organisers stress that 'not many start lines in Yorkshire can boast such a battle-ready backdrop'.
The route then heads through the historic South Cave - which is actually not a village as many believe, locals will remind you it was granted a town charter by King Edward I in 1291! Leaving the town, runners will then run through the countryside to the pretty village of Ellerker before looping round and returning to South Cave, with a couple of sharp climbs to add to the fun before the run is completed by a lap of the local playing field.
First male in the inaugural 2021 event was City of Hull's Matthew Nelson, who flew round the course in 32:19, he will be back for this year's event to see if he can beat this time and claim top spot again. On the female side, East Hull Harriers provided the first woman home in Venika Moverley who finished in a remarkable 38.48 then had to rush off, because she had a dance exam booked!
Speaking after last year's event, participant Iain Hill commented: "Great event, well done to all the team. Tremendous support, cheerful volunteers and a great support around the course. 10 out of 10."
