Run and remember at Stebbing 10
Super results for Springfield Striders at Remembrance Day 10
Pru Hayhow (pictured above) shows how to enjoy a tough 10-mile run while remembering those lost in conflict. Stebbing Remembrance Day 10 is promoted by her club, Grange Farm & Dunmow Runners, with race management by Nice Work and has twice won the Howard Williams Trophy for the best road race in Essex Athletic Association's area (2016 and 2017).
Pru was 233rd in 1:27:30 – finishing around halfway in a field of 451 runners who assembled for the traditional pre-race Service of Remembrance outside St Mary the Virgin Church on Sunday (13th November). Stebbing Primary School provides the race HQ and the finish line for this popular Essex road race.
This year's race did not host the Essex 10-mile Championships – that was run with the Orion Harriers event in May – but the standard was still high and the bulk of the awards went to the ever-present Springfield Striders who had 22 athletes competing.
Leading the way after a respectfully observed two minutes' silence were Springfield Striders' James Rygate (55:43), M40 Mark Newton (56:41) and Henry Angove (57:46). The top three were joined by Shay Joyce (Orion Harriers, 59:07) and Heydon Mizon (Witham RC, 59:43) in beating the hour.
The women's race was won by Stephanie Migliorini (Leigh-on-Sea Striders, 1:03:37) from Jackie Stretton (Springfield Striders, 1:05:26) and W40 Cara Huckstep (Trent Park Running Club, 1:06:09).
Among the high-placed masters were M60 Colin Ridley (Colchester Harriers, 1:02:02) and W60 Rebecca Pittman (Springfield Striders, 1:14:15) – there really were Striders everywhere!
There was a £100 bonus for new course records but they remain owned by Springfield Striders' Paul Cousins (51:12) from last year and Liz Davies (58:01) set in 2019.
