Runners to embark on 13.5 mile jaunt from Blaby to Foxton Locks whilst supporting a UK charity...
There will be warm weather and warm hearts this Sunday (11 June) as runners take part in the sold out Foxton Trot on behalf of The Chernobyl Children’s Project UK. They’ll pace themselves with others alongside the longest canal in the country.
The Foxton Trot and its sister event the Croft Canter are self supported runs (not races) where the aim is to enjoy a fun challenge over 13.5 miles in a beautiful location and raise funds for a worthwhile cause.
Runners will be transported by bus to Winchester Avenue, Blaby ahead of the half marathon. No mass start for this event: they’ll head off in groups (or pairs as a minimum) following an easy route along the Grand Union Canal – the main waterway between London and the Midlands – on their way back to Foxton Locks.
There’s no chip timing due to it being a run rather than a race. A generous 1.30pm time limit means people can run it at a pace to suit them and in superb surroundings with friends. Refuel with cake at 8 miles via Bridge House Barn then continue to the end and a well earned cheese cob accompanied by a restorative pint.
The Chernobyl Children’s Project UK was set up in 1995. It helps children and young people in Belarus living with the after effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. They provide a range of services including training and education, hospice care and recuperative holidays (before the pandemic and the war in Ukraine). All help is appreciated.
