Run Cheadle Virtual 4 for Oakley & Alder Hey
Enter the Cheadle Virtual 4 for Oakley and support Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Cheadle Running Club has launched a virtual version of their long established 4 mile road race and dedicated it to Oakley whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 15. The event is supporting the fundraising campaign in Oakley’s name and entry fees will be donated to the paediatric neurology department at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
The son of Mark and Jenny Dalkins, two top class athletes in their own right, Oakley had inherited their talent and passion for running and was, along with his parents, a keen member of Cheadle RC. He won the Potts ‘Arf Junior Race in 2017. He was a popular young man at school as well as the running club and known for his kind and caring nature with a big smile for everyone he met.
Sadly, Oakley passed away on 30 April from a brain tumour.
The Cheadle 4 is one of two races organised by the club, the other is the Cheadle Spring 5, and part of the North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) programme. This event along with others was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak but Cheadle RC created a virtual 4 mile race that is included in the NSRRA virtual league.
It takes place on the weekend 11/12 July and on a route of the runner’s own choosing whilst remembering to social distance. There are three options:
- Run the 4 miles in one go for NSRRA with a minimum 300ft elevation.
- Split the 4 miles over several runs or walks.
- Same as option 2 but open to juniors.
When completed, runners submit their evidence to Andrew Vickerman Timing and send a selfie to Bryan Dale. A set of results will be produced and every finisher receives a memento.
Jenny Dalkins is taking part and will be wearing Oakley’s last race vest from his win at the 2017 Potts ‘Arf along with bib number 16. She invites others to join her saying: “If anybody can support it’s very much appreciated.”
