Rob's Memory Lives On In Leeds!

Thousands turn out for 2025 Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in tribute to rugby legend...

Leeds was awash with energy and emotion on Sunday as thousands of runners took to the streets for the 2025 Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. The event, held in honour of the late rugby league icon Rob Burrow, brought together seasoned athletes, charity fundraisers and supporters of the motor neurone disease (MND) community for what has become one of the most heartfelt events in the British running calendar.

Setting off from Headingley Stadium, the marathon route took participants on a scenic 26.2-mile journey through Woodhouse Moor, Adel, Bramhope, Pool in Wharfedale and Otley. Spectators lined the streets, cheering on runners and creating a carnival-like atmosphere with music, banners and emotional tributes to Burrow.

In the men’s marathon, Nathan Edmondson claimed victory with an impressive time of 2:29:14. He was followed by Michael Priestley, who crossed the line in 2:39:17 and Ben Goddard, who took third place just seconds behind in 2:39:40. The women’s marathon was won by Eleanor Baker, who posted a time of 2:41:01, securing her place as the top female finisher of the day.

The event also featured a half marathon, where Jack Cummings of Ilkley Harriers led the men’s field, and Katie Brown finished first among the women. Eleanor Warren and Stella Cross followed closely behind to take second and third place, respectively.

Throughout the day, runners were not only focused on finishing times but also on fundraising, with many donning colorful costumes and running in support of causes close to their hearts. A significant portion of donations is directed toward the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Appeal and the MND Association, continuing the legacy of advocacy that Burrow championed during his life.

In a touching moment ahead of the race, Leeds Rhinos great Kevin Sinfield delivered a video message to runners, thanking them for supporting the MND community and encouraging them to run with pride.
