At the start of the Run Leicester Half Marathon

Run Leicester Half Marathon makes a splash!

Thousands soaked up the atmosphere along with the weather.

Torrential rain at Sunday’s (31 October) Run Leicester Half Marathon may have caused more than one runner to wonder if they should have packed their wetsuit. But they were resolute in the face of challenging conditions as they took on 13.1 Miles and finished with a smile on their faces.

There were also plenty of smiles along with encouragement from the numerous marshals and volunteers who were stoicism personified, standing outdoors for hours, clapping and cheering runners as they went past. The people of Leicester played their part too, offering words of support despite the awful weather that for many runners, acted as a spur to the finish.

Formerly the Leicester Half Marathon, the race was reworked to act as a showcase for the East Midlands city whilst delivering a memorable day for all, taking participants on a tour of its streets and parks including a trip along the Golden Mile with live music to entertain and motivate along the way to the finish for a well earned medal.

Mo Hussein of Roadhoggs Leicester AC dodged the puddles to win the 2021 Run Leicester Half Marathon in 1:10:38. Ben Di Salvo of North Devon AC was second in 1:12:25 and Jason Baker of Runstrong third in 1:12:58.

Rebecca Randell of Shepsted RC was the women’s winner in 1:22:48. Charlie Nurse was second in 1:29:29 with Emily Hall of West End Runners third in 1:30:22.

The last runner crossed the line in 3:47:59.

The full results are available via the RunABC Midlands Race Listings page.

It may have been the wettest race for many but they have vowed to return next year.
