Soggy skeletons as two runners in Halloween fancy dress give a thumbs up at the Lincoln 10K

Happy Halloween at a rain-swept Lincoln 10K

Over 2,500 runners were glad to be back at this fast and flat race.

It was a spooktacular day of running at the City of Lincoln 10K (Sunday 31 October) despite the biblical weather and helped by the tireless efforts of the volunteers. They and the crowds kept everyone’s spirits high at this well organised event from Run For All and thousands of pounds were raised for charity.

Billed as one of the biggest road races in the area, the 2021 ASDA Foundation City of Lincoln 10K made a winning return after being sidelined due to the pandemic. Downpours didn’t spoil the occasion for runners and spectators and there was plenty of energy in this Cathedral city with strong performances especially from Lincoln Wellington AC. Their runners took many of the top spots in the results table.

The 10K started at 10am on a soggy Halloween and more than a few runners wore fancy dress, determined to enjoy the race whilst (excuse the pun!) soaking up the atmosphere. A good number of people were running for a worthy cause and others taking part in their first ever race were delighted to finish.

The fast and flat scenic course was designed for PB’s.

At the sharp end of the field, Ronny Wilson of Lincoln Wellington AC raced to victory in 30:18 followed by his team mate Lucian Allison in 30:36. Jordan Skelly of Gainsborough & Morton Striders AC was only two seconds behind to finish third in 30:38.

There was a one and two for Lincoln Wellington AC women with Abbie Donnelly the female winner in 33:20 and Sophie Wallis second in 35:39. Georgina Weston of Rotherham Harriers & AC took third in 36:26.

The full set of results is available via the runABC Race Listings page.

The organisers thanked everyone involved who made it “a day to remember” when rain didn’t stop play.

Runners are invited to register their interest to enter the 2022 City of Lincoln 10K. For more details, visit the Run for All website.
