This Race Has Lots To Offa!
This 15 miler between the Wales/England border still has some coveted places available...
Fancy an opportunity to push yourself to your limits as you follow Offa’s Dyke path alongside the England-Wales border? If yes, then the Offa's Dyke 15 is the race for you and, although a race for which demand is always high, there are still spots available for the 2025 edition which will take place on 14 June.
The race offers 15 miles of the best running trails following the Offa’s Dyke footpath between Hay-on-Wye and Kington. It is a serious, scenic and strenuous off-roader! Organisers say: "This race is not to be undertaken lightly with tough climbs and two cut off points which participants must reach in time in order to finish. The views are stunning from the top however and one of the hills includes the likelihood of seeing a red kite flying overhead."
The route is a mix of trails, open fields (access granted thanks to local farmers), single-track, mud, country lanes, road and yes, hills but there is respite in the form of a two mile downhill stretch to the finish at the High School in Kington.
The race began in 1977, and became hugely popular for its beauty and the challenge, and it ran until 2002 when foot and mouth put a stop to it. In 2015, Tempo Events tracked down the original race director – David Joyce and with his help re-launched it.
In 2023 a relay option was added which will continue this year so if you feel you might not be able to make the cut off times, or just want to split the miles then maybe this is for you. You can choose if you run as a team of two or three – it’s up to you. You will all have a full entry and everyone will get a medal.
