New Fell Series for Peaks
If fell running's your thing, check out this new series of fell races for the Peak District...
We have extolled the benefits of entering a race series in previous posts here at runABC - it is great for keeping momentum in your running routine, charting progress and can also allow you to feel part of a community of like-minded runners.
If fell running's your bag then you'll want to hear about this new fell-racing series that is set to take place throughout the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales in 2024/25. The Limestone Series includes four races of varying length from a short 4 mile blast, up to an A-Category Long.
The first race in the series is the Ilam 3 Peaks Fell Race on 8 September. Starting at Ilam Primary School, runners will experience a short but steep 7.4K fell race that kicks off with a lung-busting blast up Bunster Hill, a river crossing and some speedy sections between the three summits.
Race 2 is later in the year on 15 December. The 11.8K Litton Christmas Cracker is a festive blast around Miller’s Dale and Cressbrook from the village of Litton. Into 2025 and the third race is called Moonriver and takes place on 10 January. This race is described as an exciting night-time fell race in the Dovedale Valley, featuring open fields, a rocky riverside trail, a woodland climb and undulating footpaths, finished with a sprint down the road to the pub!
The final race in the series is the Dovedale Big Daddy on 2 February. Organisers say: "Put your lungs and legs to the test in this category AL fell race featuring nine steep climbs and descents around the Manifold and Dovedale Valleys.
The series is supported by Inov8, who are providing prizes in all categories for each race, as well as prizes for the overall series.
