Moffat's Day Of Running

This Borders event combines athletic challenge with local pride and a vibrant Gala Week atmosphere...

The Moffat Run returns in 2025 for its 38th edition, once again bringing runners together as part of the town’s popular Gala Week celebrations. Taking place over a challenging and scenic 15K (9.3 mile) route, this multi-terrain race has become a much-anticipated fixture on the local running calendar.

The senior race attracts both club athletes and fun runners with its unique blend of town roads, countryside climbs and open hill running. The first 3.75 miles see runners take on undulating roads that gradually rise by 350 feet, before facing the toughest section of the course - a steep climb of nearly a mile ascending 550 feet. Those who reach the top are rewarded with a stunning 4.6 mile descent on the A701, sweeping down into the heart of Moffat town centre.

Local runners can compete for both open and hometown prizes and competitors are eligible to win across multiple categories. All finishers receive a commemorative memento. In a welcome development for 2025, the race will benefit from chip timing for the first time, thanks to support from Protay.

The Moffat Run is more than just a senior race. Junior events also take place on the day, with younger children enjoying a 1K loop through the town, while teenagers take on a 3K route that offers superb views from Chapelbrae. All junior races start and finish at Moffat Town Hall and provide a friendly and encouraging environment for young runners of all abilities.

New organisers stepped in to keep the event alive in 2024 with limited time to prepare and their efforts were widely appreciated by the community. With a full year to plan this time around, they are aiming to deliver another memorable day of running for all ages in 2025.
