Running Underground
One of the north west's most unique races will return in April next year...
Runners looking for an unforgettable experience beneath and beside the River Mersey should mark their calendars for the return of the Mersey Tunnel 10K on 12 April next year.
The popular event starts just yards from the emergency Tunnel exit road on Bevington Bush on the Liverpool side of the river. Participants will enjoy a fast descent into the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel which offers a unique stretch of just over three kilometres beneath the river before runners emerge on the Wirral side.
Once through the Tunnel, the route continues along Dock Road and past Seacombe Ferry Terminal at the halfway mark. The second half of the race follows the picturesque promenade overlooking the River Mersey, giving participants stunning views of the Liverpool skyline before reaching the finish. Finishers will cross the line on Ian Fraser Walk where they will collect medals and commemorative t-shirts, rounding off a memorable day of running.
This year’s event was a sell-out, with 2,200 places filled by club runners, charity fundraisers and international participants from countries including Austria, Norway and Ireland. Organisers are expecting places to fill up fast for the 2026 outing and so their advice is simple - act fast to secure your spot!
