Maverick X-Series races are generally to be found in the south of the country, with locations in Surrey, Dorset and Sussex frequent hosts of the extreme trail series. But, this September Maverick will be heading north for a new and fantastic adventure in one of the most iconic locations in the UK - the Lake District.

Speaking about the decision, a spokesperson said: "We felt the time was right to take you Mavericks on a journey to the stunning Lake District, with its rugged fells, stunning glacial ribbon lakes, market towns and historic literary associations."

The Maverick Adidas Terrex X-Series Lake District race is scheduled for 10 September and will start in Grasmere. Participants will set out on a rugged climb towards the impressive Stickle Tarn, which is set in a wide bowl and overlooked by Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle, these peaks once formed part of the rim of a wide volcano.

What follows depends on what course you opt for - there are four routes of varying distance from 15K-55K all of which are gnarly with some hard climbs, techincal descents and epic views. If you're looking for a challenge, an adventure and a weekend away all rolled into one then an X-Series event is for you!

Speaking about the series, organisers say: "Our X-Series events have become a benchmark for our runners as something big to aim towards. With these events having big distances, big views and big vertical gains they are events which push you to your limits and open your world to a sense of new trail running possibilities."
