Lone runner

Lace up & step up for the NHS

The organisers of the popular Chester 10K, Half Marathon, Metric Marathon and Marathon have launched a free, weekly event to keep the nation and the NHS running. There is a choice of 10K, 5K and 1 Mile and these can be done at home or outside but remembering at all times to follow government guidelines.

Active Leisure Events understand the runner’s dilemma: all fired up and raring to go but no races where they can expend their energy due to the current crisis. They also wanted to support the NHS working flat out to care for people affected by the coronavirus.

They came up with ‘Keep the NHS Running’ with the joint aims of keeping people fit and healthy and raising funds for this respected institution. And as Active Leisure Events' Chris Hulse succinctly puts it: “We want to put all that surplus energy to good use.”

There is a new event to enter every Monday and people have a week to complete it outdoors or on a treadmill at home. Run, jog or walk, it is a matter of individual choice and children can also take part with 1 Mile a good option and a fun one. As an extra incentive, one lucky runner will win a free entry to the 2021 ALDI Chester 10K.

Keep The NHS Running Virtual EventThe goal is to help the NHS as Chris Hulse reiterates: “We are looking to raise as much money as possible to keep the NHS running! Please help by taking part and donating to either the Countess of Chester Hospital Charity or NHS Charities Together and all donations go directly to these charities.”
