Galloping Good Time Guaranteed!
With a mostly flat course, picturesque surroundings and a proud tradition of making a difference this 5-miler has a lot going for it...
The Golden Gates Gallop will be back on 28 September, once again combining a love of running with a mission to raise vital funds for Blood Cancer UK. First held in 1986, the event was created by a local resident with a passion for both the sport and charitable fundraising. Now approaching its 39th year, it remains a highlight of the Derbyshire running calendar.
Starting beneath the iconic Napoleonic 'golden' gates, the main race is a two-lap, five-mile route through the scenic grounds of Elvaston Castle. The course includes the famous 'gallops', where rolling ups and downs add an extra challenge before the sprint finish at Elvaston Cricket Club. For those looking for a shorter option, the two-mile fun run offers a single lap of the castle’s perimeter path, excluding the gallops, making it ideal for families and younger runners who still want to soak up the event atmosphere.
Over the decades, the Golden Gates Gallop has raised thousands of pounds for Blood Cancer UK, helping to fund research and support for people living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancers. All proceeds after running costs are donated to the charity, with organisers encouraging participants to maximise their fundraising efforts.
The race village at Elvaston Cricket Club is at the heart of the day, offering a lively post-run celebration with refreshments, a bar, raffles, local market stalls and a family-friendly atmosphere.
