Glenshee to host first Snow Running event
A race on ski slopes? No, we’re not taking the piste …
A brand new hill running event at the Glenshee Ski Centre aims to make the most of the Scottish winter.
Snow Running Glenshee 22 will take place on Saturday 5 March, on the snowy slopes of the Perthshire ski area. The long course will take runners aged 18+ on a 12K tour around the ski resort, with 900m of climbing. The short course, for those over 16, covers 6.5K, with 500m of climbing.
The intention is to run the event entirely on the pisted snow of the centre, if, in the words of the organisers, ‘the snow gods are smiling’, but the race will go ahead regardless of snow cover.
Both the short and the long events will begin at dusk and take runners into the winter night – subject to a three-hour time limit from the race start.
As you might expect, to take on an event of this nature runners will be required to carry a comprehensive selection of clothing and equipment with them at all times, including head torch, full body clothing and survival gear. Organisers are hoping for a ‘clear, starlit sky’, but everyone must be fully prepared for ‘true Scottish conditions’.
In addition to an incredible adventure courtesy of ‘Scotland’s Nature’, all participants will receive a commemorative snow running pendant, a £5 Decathlon voucher, a spot prize and a token for a free tour of Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery.
Entries are strictly limited to 150 and will close on 28 February, unless the race limit is reached earlier.
