Foxton Hound Ultra

Ready To Go The Distance?

Stunning landscapes, historic highlights and the thrill of pushing limits, this ultra has it all...

The Foxton Hound Ultra returns on 16 August, offering both a serious challenge for experienced ultra runners and a perfect stepping stone for those ready to push beyond marathon distances. Set against the scenic backdrop of the countryside surrounding Market Harborough, the event features two race distances (100K and 50K) both of which follow the Harborough Round, a long-distance footpath winding through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

Starting and finishing at Winwick Hall, Northants, the routes lead runners on a spectacular journey through villages and landscapes steeped in beauty and history. From Foxton Locks and the Naseby Battlefield to the dramatic Kelmarsh Tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way, the course offers a striking blend of natural scenery and cultural landmarks. Runners will also pass through villages such as Houghton on the Hill, West Haddon, Coton and Stoke Albany, experiencing the best of the East Midlands’ rural charm.

The ultra routes feature a mix of challenging climbs and rewarding descents, offering both physical demand and running pleasure. While the courses are well-marked with tape and arrows, organisers strongly advise participants to prepare for self-navigation. Both routes intersect with several well-known long-distance trails, including the Jurassic Way, Leicestershire Round, Macmillan Way, Midshires Way, Richard the Third Trail and the Uppingham Round.

To help runners prepare and build confidence in the course, organisers are hosting a series of free guided recces in the lead-up to race day, they say: "These informal, community-focused training runs offer participants the chance to familiarise themselves with the route, enjoy the social side of ultra running, and perhaps finish with a well-earned brew. They’re also open to those not yet entered in the event, providing a taster of what’s on offer for those still deciding whether to take on the challenge."
