The Last Duel Runners

The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown

Make a date with a technical trail in Fife this autumn...

Throw down the gauntlet and challenge your mates to a battle in the Kingdom of Fife. Entries are now open for The Last Duel Trail Race and it will be a case of fastest fingers first when it comes to securing a place!

Taking place on 30 October, the technical trail race is approximately 5.7 miles long with a route that takes runners past the location where the last pistol duel in Scotland took place on 23 August 1826, 196 years ago!

The route incorporates the woods around Cardenden where runners will experience an amazing mixture of trail and woodland with quickly changing terrain. This is an excellent route for runners of all abilities and organisers emphasise that experienced hill and trail runners will not be disappointed with the unique new route. Commenting, a spokesperson said: "You will run under the dual carriageway, over a small timber bridge, slalom around trees and much more. If you haven’t been to Cardenden Woods, you will be in for a treat.

"Trail shoes are recommended as the course is mainly off-road (very off-road in places), and often muddy, rocky or rooted. It's a 'proper' challenging off-road race."

Organisers Fife AC and Kirkcaldy Wizards will be hoping that this year, there is a little less confusion over the course. Last year a few participants weren't paying enough attention and went the wrong way early on but they were soon back on track and thoroughly enjoyed the race. In fact a new course record was set in 2021 - Russell Hall got round the course in 36:20 which was a fantastic achievement.

Commenting on Facebook, Jimmy McIntyre said: "Best trail race I’ve ever done, love the many technical parts." If you want to see what Jimmy's talking about, visit the website and find out more.
