Dunoon Coastal 10K

Dunoon Takes Two!

There are two great reasons to take a trip 'doon the watter' this year...

How about a running trip to the Costa del Dunoon in 2024? There are two very different running events scheduled for the west coast town and entries for both are now open.

First up is the Dunoon 10K Coastal Road Race which has a fantastic summer date of 3 August. A summertime race on the stunning Argyll coast, what could be better? And adding to the appeal is the fact that this 10K has a proven flat and fast route.

Runners will head south along the banks of the Firth of Clyde along the coast road, and then back to the start – with stunning views in all directions. The route seems tailor made for a PB with organisers Dunoon Presents describing the race on facebook as ‘one of the flattest there is’.

Into autumn and it is the turn of the Dunoon Ultra Marathon and Relay on 14 September. For runners who fancy taking on a bigger challenge, the 55K long Dunoon Ultra is an ideal goal.

Due to last year’s event being cancelled last minute, all places for the 2023 marathon and relay were deferred so the 2024 event is already pretty full with only a handful of relay places currently left, so be quick if you fancy taking on the challenge with friends.

The route – with nearly 4000ft of climbing definitely not one of the flattest there is – takes runners from Benmore Gardens and up Puck’s Glen to Inverchapel and a climb to the highest point of the race at 1000ft above sea level. From there, runners head into Glenbranter and then along the west side of Loch Eck, back to Benmore Gardens for a final climb and then a well-earned descent into the Bishops Glen. Like the 10K, the Ultra enjoys a spectacular finish at Dunoon Pier.
