Battle of Stirling 10K set for September

Racing returns to Scotland’s smallest city in face of marathon call-off

Race organisers Central Athletics Club have announced that the City of Stirling 10K is now open for entries

This year’s race, which will be the 20th edition of this popular event, will be held on Sunday, 12 September.

The news should cheer Central Belt runners disappointed at the cancellation of the Stirling Marathon weekend in October, which would have also included 5k and Half-Marathon distance events.

Given the constantly evolving situation with regard to the pandemic, entries to this year's City of Stirling 10K will be limited to 500, with none to be taken on the day. The fun run will also not be going ahead.

In terms of the route, Central Athletics Club have confirmed that the fast, flat and scenic course will be the same it was in 2019 and is suitable for runners of all abilities.

As before, the race will start and finish outside The Peak at Stirling Sports Village and feature prizes for both individuals and teams.

The City of Stirling 10K is known for attracting a high-quality field, with entrants from all over Scotland. The last edition of the race included Scotland internationals Jenny Bannerman and Kenny Wilson among its 615 finishers.

First female home in 2019 – for the fifth year in a row – was Ireland international and Shettleston Harrier Fionnuala Ross (33.38) and first male Omer Ahmed (28.53).

In addition to being a top-notch race for runners of all standards, organisers have just found out that the 2021 event will again be chosen to serve as the Scottish 10K Championships.
