Hydration Stations With A Difference...
Beer, running, fancy dress...where do I sign up?
Who doesn't love beer, running and dressing up? Three of our favourite things at runABC, and that's a fact! But it has taken the Walloons of Liège, a city along the Meuse River in Belgium’s French-speaking Wallonia region, to put this trio together in the perfect package – the Beer Lovers' Marathon!
We are excited to announce the latest package by running travel experts Marathon Tours & Travel to the Beer Lovers' Marathon in Liège on Sunday, May 18th, 2025. Unlike traditional marathons, this event features beer stations along the route where, in addition to water and fruit, runners can try different Belgian beers – there are a whopping 16 different regional beers to sample!
These beer stations feature "musical animation", creating a party-like atmosphere. In addition to the wonderful atmosphere, the course takes runners through the beautiful and historic city of Liège, offering scenic city views.
Each year, a special theme encourages runners to race in costume, adding to the lively and colourful nature of the event. This year’s theme is the Belgian Comic Strip! Think Smurf/Smurfette, perhaps TinTin, Captain Haddock, or Professor Calculus.
This could be a fun trip for an athletics club or running group, particularly if a stag or hen party is involved. This will be the 9th Beer Lovers' Marathon and there are event activities arranged from the opening of the bar at 2:00pm on Saturday 17th May until noon on Monday 19th May. The package price is from £499 per person and the marathon entry is £85. Non-running supporters pay £25 to include a 5K walking course optimised for watching the race, with access to four 'refreshment' points on the route.
