Balbirnie Badass Trail Race

Badass Is Back!

New route for this badass trail race...

Entries are now open for the Balbirnie Badass Trail Race, which returns to Fife on 15 February following popular demand. Organised by Nuts About Trail Races, the event proudly bills itself as the 'Bestest Baddest Winter Trail Race in Scotland' and promises a tough but welcoming challenge for runners of all abilities.

The race takes place in Balbirnie Park, Markinch, with a new route for 2026 that organisers promise will retain the event’s much-loved features, including the infamous Bessie’s Bog. Set within 416 acres of parkland and woodland gardens to the northeast of Glenrothes, the varied terrain of Balbirnie Park provides an ideal winter trail running venue.

Runners can expect a course of between four and five miles, weaving through woodland paths and trails and featuring plenty of mud, water crossings and a few testing undulations. The organisers say the route has been designed to suit everyone from complete novices tackling their first trail race to experienced runners looking for a gritty winter test.

Sponsored by Badass Brewing Co., the event adds to its appeal with bespoke race mementos for all finishers and spot prizes on the day, including the chance to win Badass craft beer for those in attendance.

Speaking about the course, the organisers said they were excited to once again offer a challenging but fun winter trail experience in one of Fife’s most scenic parks, adding that the combination of terrain and atmosphere makes it a standout event in the winter racing calendar.
